Danang and Hue have long been iconic destinations along Vietnam’s South-Central Coast. Separated by the Truong Son Mountain Range, Danang is known more for its relatively recent past, first as a 19th-century port city and then a 20th-century rest and relaxation destination made popular by American troops. Hue enjoys a long and royal history, once the ancient capital of imperial Vietnam and home to fabulous temples and tombs.

The two-hour land journey between Danang and Hue is usually undertaken by bus, car, motorbike or train, highlighted by the Hai Van (Sea Cloud) Pass, called “a deserted ribbon of perfection, one of the best coast roads in the world” in the 2008 television program “Top Gear: Vietnam Special”.

However, if you think the Hai Van Pass is incredible by road, bounded on one side by forested mountains while plunging cliffs lead down to the blue East Sea on the other, you need to see it from above to truly appreciate its sharp switchbacks, thick forests, and untouched shoreline.
